In the last five years, the feeling of loneliness has increased in Germany. Today, one in three people between the ages of 18 and 53 feels lonely at least some of the time – including many younger people under 30, as new BiB analyses show.

Wer raucht, übergewichtig ist oder medizinisch nicht gut versorgt wird, stirbt oft früher als es unter optimalen Bedingungen der Fall gewesen wäre. Demografen sprechen dann von vermeidbarer Sterblichkeit. Diese hat sich, wie eine neue Studie zeigt, im Osten und Westen Norddeutschlands zwar so gut wie angeglichen – das gilt jedoch nur für die Städte.
