A new study by BiB shows that most parents overestimate their children's school skills. Written assessments in report cards have little effect on this, whereas grades have a stronger impact on parents.

Studies show that it is difficult, especially for women, to reconcile taking on the parental role and long commuting distances. However, the effective directions are still unclear. Does the formation of a family reduce the readiness for longer commuting distances and are professional disadvantages therefore being accepted? Or does commuting lead to a postponement of family formation or even prevent it? Analysing these research questions, the book sheds light on a new explanatory approach for mothers’ lower chances of gainful employment and contributes to the identification of factors determining fertility.
