This text on migration and the spatial distribution of ethnic Germans came about in the context of a project by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees on the evaluation of the impact of the Place of Residence Allocation Act (Wohnortzuweisungsgesetz). It presents the legal basis of migration and the spatial distribution of ethnic Germans caused by allocation, describes trends in migration using the official data, and analyses the spatial distribution in the Federal Länder, as well as in the districts. The internal migration conduct of ethnic Germans and regional aspects of integration are also discussed.
