Field Work

• The survey research institute Kantar GmbH has been commissioned to carry out the field work. The interviews with the target population were conducted in person on the basis of a standardized questionnaire (CAPI – Computer Assisted Personal Interview). The questionnaire is translated into Arabic, Tigrinya and English and was available as a bilingual instrument. For the face-to-face interviews, German- and Arabic-speaking interviewers were employed.
• The survey was carried out between August and October 2020. The interviews with the respondents during this period had to cope with the restriction of personal contacts throughout Germany due to the spread of the infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In order to avoid any risk to the interviewees and their families as well as to the interviewers, the field phase in summer 2020 was carried out in compliance with strict Corona hygiene measures after comprehensive training. Despite the challenging circumstances, complete interviews were conducted with a total of 1,458 persons.
