Content and Objectives

The project "Fertility in the Context of Migration and Integration" is the continuation of the project "International and Intercultural Comparison of Fertility"; it represents a focus on ethnic and religious diversity resulting from the immigration movements of the past decades and differential demographic developments in population groups with and without a migration background. The focus will not only be on the comparison of persons with and without a migration background, but the diversity of fertility patterns within migrant/ethnic/religious minority groups will also be examined from a so-called intersectionality perspective. This includes comparing women and men, examining educational groups or religious affiliation and regions of origin. The analysis of fertility behaviour is complemented by the topics of attitudes and family planning. Initial studies in this project show that migrant groups differ from the majority population not only in family formation patterns and birth rates, but also in attitudes towards family planning and knowledge about reproductive health.
