Well-being of families during the Corona pandemic

Content and Objectives

Building on previous work by the BiB and the Corona Family Monitor, the project will systematically investigate the well-being of families. Several dimensions of well-being will be addressed, such as satisfaction, stress or worries in different areas. On the one hand, the aim is to observe developments in well-being and to describe changes in the course of the pandemic in a differentiated manner. Socio-demographic and socio-economic differences, for example, according to family types, migration background, education and income groups and regions will be examined for different points in time during the pandemic. Groups and regions were affected very differently by the measures to contain the pandemic - these differences are to be considered in a differentiated manner in order to better understand medium to long-term effects. The analyses will focus on the well-being of adults, also looking at the effect of their well-being on the development of their children. For a project on the health well-being of children and adolescents, see also the public health project of research group 1.1, which methodologically works primarily with "Systematic Reviews". In addition, the findings will also be examined to see to what extent they differ for different measures of well-being.

In particular, on the basis of the new data from the Family Demographic Panel (FReDA), family well-being will be examined, going beyond previous correlations with other key characteristics. Furthermore, the specific situation of young adults who make the transition to vocational training after school education will be examined. The extent to which family constellations between parents and adult children have changed significantly as a result of the pandemic and what consequences this has will also be focused on.

Data and Methods

The project will use various secondary data, in particular: FReDA, COMPASS data and regional level data (for example on Corona protection measures). On the one hand, differentiated descriptive analyses of changes in well-being over time and for different groups will be carried out.
