Effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Families

Content and Objectives

The Covid-19 pandemic and the related closures of child care facilities and schools posed great challenges for parents, children and youth. The project analyses the effects on mental health, the situation of couples and life satisfaction, differentiating between different socio-economic groups. The effects on families will be investigated over the course of the pandemic in order to better understand the dynamics of different pandemic waves and the effects of containment measures. In this context, the project team will work closely together with the research group “Education and Human Capital”.

Data and Methods

The analyses are based on the FreDA and pairfam studies. Further data sources are the SOEP study, the Mannheim Corona Study and the Microcensus.
