Objectives

European comparative study on practices, attitudes, experiences, preferences and evaluation of work and parenthood and opinions about government policies with respect to the reconciliation of work and family life.

Description of Work

  1. On the basis of the international PPAS standardised database, resulting from the national surveys a European comparative analysis will be made of:
    - attitudes, experiences, preferences and evaluation of the combination between work and parenthood;
    - attitudes, experiences, preferences and evaluation in specific domains: employment, housework, child care, and care of elderly;
    - opinions about government policies with respect to facilitating the combination of work and parenthood.
  2. The data of the international PPAS on individual practices, attitudes, experiences and preferences with respect to work and parenthood will be related to the evaluation of the policy measures that were taken to assist families in reaction to the partial incompatibility between paid work and family.
  3. The international PPAS data on work and parenthood will be analysed according to the socio-demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the respondents and the values they entail: age and sex, household and family characteristics, education, activity and income, religion, urbanisation of residence, values in life.
  4. The results of the analysis on work and parenthood will also be studied in relation to the findings on the other major research issues studied in the project: gender roles, family formation, child care, intergenerational solidarity.
  5. The results of the international PPAS analysis will be related to the findings of the Delphi-, focus group-, and contextual parts of the project.
