Objectives

European comparative study of attitudes, experiences, preferences and evaluation of gender roles in partnership, family life and work and opinions about government policies with respect to gender-related rights.

Description of Work

  1. On the basis of the international PPAS standardised database, resulting from the national surveys, a European comparative analysis will be made of:

    - general attitudes and preferences concerning gender roles in partnership, parenthood and occupation;

    - attitudes, experiences, preferences and evaluation in specific domains: labour (employment), housework, child care, financial management, decision making;

    - opinions about government policies with respect to gender-related rights.

  2. The data of the international PPAS on individual attitudes, experiences and preferences with respect to gender roles will be compared to the recorded opinions about government policies in those matters.
  3. The international PPAS data on gender roles will be analysed according to the socio-demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the respondents and the values they entail: age and sex, household and family characteristics, education, activity and income, religion, urbanisation of residence, values in life.
  4. The results of the analysis on gender roles will also be studied in relation to the findings on the other major research issues studied in the project: family formation, work and parenthood, child care, intergenerational solidarity.
  5. The results of the international PPAS analysis will be related to the findings of the Delphi-, focus group-, and contextual parts of the project.
