The BiB invites you to the lecture series on November 9, 2023 from 11:00 to 12:15. Dr. Marc Luy presents his paper “Measuring Health Expectancy: A Critical Look at Utility and Potentials”.
Marc Luy is a Research Group Leader at the Vienna Institute of Demography of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Honorary Professor of Demography at the University of Vienna. His research is on trends and differentials in health and mortality.
Health Expectancy (HE) indicators become increasingly important for health policies and public health measures. The general understanding of HE is that it simply extends the average life expectancy (LE) by one dimension. Technically, this is correct because the years lived by the life table population – the basis of LE – is divided into two quality dimensions: life years spent in good health and those spent in poor health. The presentation will highlight selected examples of HE sensitivity and discuss the usefulness of the indicator and ways to overcome its weaknesses.
The event will take place on the 3rd floor of the BiB in presence and online as a Webex conference.
