Humankind has hit the eight billion mark in November 2022. This number will further increase. Future growth will mostly take place in some Subsahara countries. Nigeria, the African country with the largest population, is one of them.
Dr Nkechi Owoo (University of Ghana) talks about her research on countries in Subsahara Africa, especially Nigeria and Ghana. Not only insufficient food production, but also a lack of family planning endangers the nutritional situation of many poor households. Child labour is only one of the ensuing problems. Why are efficient contraceptives not widespread? How can more educated women find their way into better paying jobs?
