Online Event • 06.10.2021BiB-Symposium „The Ageing of the Babyboomers: Current Issues of Work and Retirement Research in a European Perspective“

Among other things, the symposium will examine the characteristics and significance of the transition to retirement in Germany and Europe. The event will take place online on November 25, 2021. Changes in the transitions to retirement and how these are influenced, for example, by individual characteristics and societal conditions will be considered.

This includes the question of how older people adapt to the post-employment phase of life and the role played by extended working life and voluntary commitment or care work. It also discusses how social inequalities affect the transition to retirement and individual adaptation to it. Furthermore, the focus is also on the future: How will the perception and organization of the retirement phase of the baby boomers develop? What are the challenges for society, the economy and politics?

Against the backdrop of the aging of the baby boomer cohorts, the conference will give international researchers the opportunity to present and discuss current research findings on the retirement transition and the post-work life phase.
The conference allows for international exchange on current topics of research on retirement transitions and life in retirement in a European perspective.

The interdisciplinary symposium is organized by the research group "Individual and Societal Ageing" of the Federal Institute for Population Research. In view of the Corona situation, it will take place as an online event.

Due to the international orientation, the symposium will be held in English. Interested parties are asked to please register for the symposium by Friday, November 19, 2021 by email to andreas.mergenthaler@bib.bund.de.
