With its presence on Twitter, the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB) wants to provide reliable information to the public, politicians, media and the scientific community. Information on current publications such as the BiB Policy Briefs and recent scientific findings shall be disseminated faster.

#Demography

The main scientific task of the institute is its research on the causes and consequences of demographic trends in Germany. In addition to scientific publications, news relevant to the public is spread via different communication channels. This includes the bulletin on current topics in population research (Bevölkerungsforschung Aktuell), information brochures and a knowledge database on demographic issues providing more than 430 facts and figures on the German website. Using the online social networking service Twitter, the BiB has the opportunity to draw immediate attention to breaking news and to address target groups that the current service does not reach. Tweets will be in German or English.

Research director at the BiB Dr. Nikola Sander: “We are happy that all news from our institute can now also be received via our Twitter account. Have a look and follow @bib_bund.“
