European Population Conference 2016 • 27.04.2015EPC to Be Hosted in Germany for the First Time in 2016
Europe’s largest scientific conference on population studies, the European Population Conference (EPC), will take place in Germany for the first time in 2016. The EPC is convened every two years by the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS). In cooperation with the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB), the conference will be hosted on the premises of the University of Mainz from August 31st to September 3rd, 2016. Alongside numerous scientific presentations and panels concerning population research, the conference’s theme of “Demographic Change and Policy Implications” also provides the opportunity to discuss topics relating to policy-making.

At the conference, 500 presentations will be held in parallel meetings and roughly 250 posters will be presented in several poster sessions. Furthermore, a number of side events will be run in order to foster academic cooperation and to support young scholars. Between 900 and 1000 participants from Europe and other parts of the world are expected. The conference will be run by EAPS and the Federal Institute for Population Research as local organizational partner and host.
The preparations for the conference are in high gear. Recently, EAPS’ board and the Director of the Federal Institute for Population Research, Prof. Dr. Norbert F. Schneider, visited the conference site. The conference’s additional programme, as well as the content of its motto, was also agreed upon. Currently, a conference website is being developed and prepared for launch, and a call for papers has been made.
